There are few names that make Nigerians “shake” like Linda Ikeji, the blogging queen that feeds the always information hungry millennials.

She is the frugal innovator, who pushed change forward until she could no longer avoid it, just like her contemporary, Seun Osewa, who started Nairaland about the same time. For years, she refused suggestions to change the design on her website. She kept using Blogger to churn out content for her loyal readers. Not until August 2016, after Blogger blocked her account, accusing her of stealing content from other producers and facing the imminent threat of losing her brand, did she announce the migration of her site. This seemed to be the turning point. Since then she and her team have been pushing aggressively on many fronts. A barrage of products, targeting the consumer internet market; including online tv, radio, music, https://lindaikejinigeria.bravejournal.net/post/2021/09/03/Hi-Fashion-Online!:-Linda-Ikeji-s-Hermes-Bag-The-Cost-Of-Being-Successful-And-Single and micro-blogging platforms were launched.

The company was hoping to cash-in on its years of experience and success, dealing with this market segment. She is the Nigerian internet queen, swimming against the tide of the internet consumer, try to bend the waves to her rhythm. Did she succeed in her adventure?
LIS, The Social Media That Never Was

The idea of Linda Ikeji Social, (LIS), was to extend the interaction happening among readers of her already popular blog. A way for her to have user-generated content, much like Reddit.

In 2015, technology niche editorial site, TechCabal, tried this same approach with Radar, in which it removed the commenting section and asked its audience to “continue the conversation” on a dedicated site. When LIS was, therefore, announced in late 2016, to a more general audience, the public did not cringe.

The task at hand, which eventually crumbled the social site, was to convert its readers on Linda Ikeji Blog to content producers on Linda Ikeji Social, while retaining the former. The team understood this very well and made it clear to the public.

The design of the platform was a fusion of Facebook and Twitter, aimed at retaining its users through a combination of news, (gossip), section, events section and deals section.

To drive growth and engagement, incentives were offered to active content creators. It is similar to Youtube’s model of rewarding its content creators: get a certain number of views and engagement from your audience and we will pay you for it. For example, LIS promised that users with 50,000 followers or more will get 20% of the adverts generated from their content and those who sent in exclusive stories will get paid 1000 NGN for their effort. Many people raced to create account. One prominent example, is the CEO of Hotels.ng, Mark Essien, shown on the screenshot above. In less than 24 hours of launching, Alexa recorded ten thousand hits for the new site.

The model that tried to drive growth to the platform was what killed it. A social platform should thrive on its spontaneity: people should be able to post directly to the app, but because they were driven by money, they needed to send the story to the LIS editorial team who would verify exclusivity before posting the content and paying out the reward. The paying out is the easy part. The editorial, not so easy. It would be good if it is one man reporting stories, but what happens when 10,000 people send in their stories? Imagine everyone on Facebook sending their pictures to its editorial team; they will have to vet, edit and verify the story before the content is found to suit the needs of the platform. The difficulty laid in scaling the model; it bugged LIS down until it dragged it to its slowly death.
Linda Ikeji TV, An Attempt to Set Forth at Twilight

After trying and failing at launching online music and radio streaming services, Linda Ikeji settled for television. In a recent interview, she reportedly said the team had spent 0.5 Billion NGN, (about $1.5 Million in 2018), to set-up the product and produce content for the platform before launching. “The cost of production is capital intensive,” she said, after discussing how the team had self-funded the production of several reality TV-shows, movies, and TV-series.

By launching this product, she is competing with Iroko TV, the company that launched in 2011, raising over $40 Million in the process and has physical presence in, at least 4 major cities across Africa. The Co-Founder of Iroko TV, Jason Njokwu, has commented severally on his personal blog, on how after 7 years in operations, the outfit is yet to attain profitability. In comparison with the global market, Netflix reported $12 Billion total debt in October 2016.

Below is a letter from linda ikeji to her fans. the ex beauty queen take time out to defend herself on accusations made against her regarding dating celebrities and stuffs. read her note below
Sitting in my hotel room, blogging, getting ready to head back home and decided to write this letter to you guys, my blog readers. I haven’t gotten personal in a while..so here goes…:-)

People who know me very well will tell you that if there’s anything that I’m very good at it’s ignoring people/things. My mum will tell you that I can ignore someone so bad that they would start to doubt their own existence. She used to slap me around a lot just to get my attention when I was much younger. Half the time, she still didn’t get it. I was that bad..:-)

Growing up I kept to myself a lot. I was introverted. Didn’t socialize much and didn’t have that many friends. I’m a totally different person now. You know what they say about age and maturity. I have friends now and I socialize more now. With the kind of job I have, https://controlc.com/e061706c I can’t afford not to…:-). Please continue…

I talked about how good I was at ignoring people (I’m not so good at it it anymore) because a lot of things have been written about me that I have ignored…and people have wondered why I don’t address these things on my blog. What’s the point, really? How many are you going to respond to? It’s never going to stop as long as I remain a blogger and I plan to be around for a very long time, so the sooner I accept that and focus on the important stuff, the better for me. Also, people will believe what they want to believe regardless of what you say…but there are those who keep an open mind and http://www.bsaa.edu.ru will only reach their own conclusions after hearing your own side…but then again, how many people are you going to explain to? Do you even owe anyone any explanations? At the end of the day, I know who I am and I love who I am so it doesn’t really matter what a lot of people think…

But for some reason, I kinda feel like I owe you guys – LIB readers – an explanation. You guys have changed my life in ways that I can not even begin to tell you. Just four years ago, in 2009, while a CEO of a modeling and events company, I went to the ATM to withdraw money from my account. I checked my balance and it was N800. I wanted to withdraw N500 but the minimum balance you can leave in your account then (don’t know if it’s same now) was N500, Linda Ikeji so the ATM didn’t give me the N500 I desperately needed. I tried to withdraw N300, but found out the minimum one can withdraw from an ATM is N500. I went home feeling down, wondering when my life would turn around.

It has! Just four years later, I am a self-made millionaire. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to believe this is really my life and I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for changing my life. Whether you like me or not…as long as you’ve opened this page…I say thank you…because without you guys, the brands who pay me a lot of money to get advert space on my blog won’t do so. Thanks LIBers!!!

Now to the point of my letter. Just to clarify some things you probably have read about me:
*I don’t belong to the illuminati…I’m not even sure I believe in its existence.
*I’m not a fraudster, wouldn’t know how to defraud someone even if I tried.
*I’m not a blackmailer, never blackmailed anyone in my life, never will! I don’t have the liver to do such, speakerdeck.com plus I was raised better than that. Don’t know how anyone can stoop that low..
*I don’t collect money from people to take down stories from my blog…that’s like using my own hand to ruin myself. People can use it against you later, with evidence sef. Seriously, I would be foolish to do that. Any blogger would be foolish to do that. Don’t do it! You either take down the story out of compassion or you don’t!
*I’ve never dated Jim Iyke…I’ve only ever met him once in my life.
*I’ve never dated Ikechukwu the rapper, Linda Ikeji only met him a few times at events.
*I’m not dating any celebrity, don’t plan to.
*I’m not a husband snatcher. I’d sooner cut my head off before I date a married man. The married man is not yet born.
*I’m not a runs girl…Jeez! Puke! Lol. That’s beneath me. I’ve been working hard since I was 17 and only made it after I turned 30. I’m proudly self made…:-)

I don’t know what else you’ve heard…but it’s most likely not true. The only thing you can believe a little if you hear is that I’m rude. I’m not a rude person, most people will tell that I’m nice…but I can be rude. I have been rude. It depends on how you approach me. I’m great to most people I meet but a few people have seen the other side of me. Thing is; a lot of people want this and that from me. My phone never stops ringing with people making all kinds of requests…but I can’t give everyone what they want. Sometimes I have to tell people off. Not verbally, it’s mostly just ignoring people.

The one thing you can believe a lot about me is that I’m a gossip! Duh, I do that for a living…lol

Anyway, more stuff will be written about me and I’m cool with it. I write about people so it’s only fair that others write about me. You know what they say; you get what you give! I know that. I understand it and I accept it. And I don’t plan to respond to most of the talk…sometimes I will but most of the time I won’t. You choose what you want to believe and what you don’t. And those who are worried about my reputation, don’t be! You see, when God stands by you, no one can bring you down. Plus none of the people writing are holier. Besides, it comes with being on top. So many people will try to bring you down, but you never ever give them the chance. They can try, just don’t ever let them win.

The thing is, I plan to be around for a long time. I’m only 32 and I’m just starting. Blogging is just a starting point for me. I’m planning to build my own studio here in Lagos, produce TV shows and be a media mogul. That’s my dream and I’m already on that path. I’m looking forward to my future!

Also I’m starting a youth empowerment program where I will not only guide and mentor young girls, but also help finance their small scale businesses. That starts in August. It’s my way of giving back.

Having said all that let me give advice to all the young people reading this:
1. What people think about you is not important…because they will have an opinion and there’s nothing you can do about it. But remember, it’s what you think about yourself that matters the most. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you’re less than what you are. Never let anyone make you think low of yourself. Always think up. Remember, whatever you think about yourself, that’s what you are!

2. You can be anything you want to be. For all the dreamers out there, Linda Ikeji here’s something you need to know. The time while you’re waiting for your dreams to come true is not a bad time. All you have to do is keep moving, keep believing, keep fighting, keep working hard and keep praying. You see the God we serve? He’s not a foolish God. He’s a marvelous God. His ways are not our ways. There’s an appointed time for everything. When He’s ready for you, you won’t believe what hit you. When your dream takes off, you’re going to be running, trying to keep up with it. Your dreams will come true because you deserve it. Just never give up! I’m a living testimony!

3. Remember, one day this life will be over…so while you’re still here, you must live the best life you can. You owe that to yourself. Feel as much love, as much joy, as much happiness as you can handle. You can have a good life. You deserve to be happy. You deserve good things. Be good to yourself and others and all good things will come to you.
All the best!!!

I will be missing in action on LIB for at least 24 hours. After 20 days here, I’m flying back home.
Catch you soon.

The Linda Ikeji Hermes Birkin bags were bought from the United Kingdom for $14 thousand USD each, that’s a total of $28 thousand. It was purchase from a designer’s shop on the Sloan Street in the Royal Borough of Kensington, Chelsea area in London.

Sloane Street is London’s premiere shopping avenue for the world’s most revered luxury brands. From designer handbags, couture fashion and www.redsea.gov.Eg accessories Sloane Street is reputed for offering an intimate shopping atmosphere in Knightsbridge boutiques and is committed to world class service.

We sent someone who is in Uk over there to confirm with the story online and the result came out positive, the Hermes Birkin bag Linda Ikeji bought is 100% original and have been confirmed by the designers shop and Hermes Birkin, the makers.

Like I said in the previous article, the only thing Linda Ikeji got wrong was replying the haters who tried to instigate the lies. They would have failed in their quest if Linda Ikeji had kept quiet. By replying, she gave away herself so cheaply and gave the haters more reasons to insult and castigate her.

From the pictures Linda posted some hours ago and later pulled down, Linda Ikeji showed all the accessories that comes with the bags and the stamp of authenticity from the manufacturers of the bags, Hermes Birkin. It is impossible for a designer shop to sell such item at such huge amount of money if the item in question is not original. United Kingdom is not Nigeria where anything can happen without questioning.

I think Linda’s comment was as a result of the continuous attack from people who could not see anything good in her. When you are subjected to such attacks for now reasons, even when you are doing your best to help others, its just a matter of time before you cave in and do or say what you are not supposed to say.

First of all, Aunty Linda Ikeji– I’d like to state that I am a fan of yours. I am also an unrepentant LIBer, and I think you are the biggest inspiration for many of us who recently ventured into blogging.

You are a role model to me (not because I like all your viral gossip stories, but the way in which you have created a brand with huge followers, worth millions of naira).

So if you ever get to read this, do not take it as hating, rather see it as another up and coming blogger blogging on your blog issues *laughs*.

MATURITY
Aunty Linda Ikeji, I fully support you on reporting the “Wizkid’s 16years old cousin beating” threats to the Police. We should never condone violence.

Reporting threats (incitements) like this is vital to your safety because it is coming from a celebrity who has lot of fans which could lead to something awful just like you said. But Aunty, in your first epistle debunking the Wizkid’s claim (you called it 1000% lies but then more than 80% of your gossip posts are 1,000,000% lies) that you slept with his director (not my business though because I don’t care who you sleep with, some are saying it’s Sesan shaa *winks*), you mentioned that Wizkid’s PR team approached you but you rebuffed them blah blah… why didn’t you reach them (Wizkid or his PR team) after you felt he threatened you before going to the Police? You’re Linda Ikeji Aunty, I am pretty sure if you’d reached him, you could’ve thrashed this alleged beef and made him release a public apology to you over the threats.

That would have been a more mature approach! Show some maturity Aunty. In a sane clime, I am sure the Police would’ve told you to cool off after making the report, but because you are Linda Ikeji, you’d to write another epistle to explain why you did it.

Why did you make the report if you won’t let the Police do their job first? Why didn’t you address the threat in your first epistle?

GENDER CARD
Aunty Linda Ikeji, why do you have to play the gender card? Wizkid did not attack you because you are a woman, he did so because your platform was damaging his image which is not good for his show and ambassadorial business.

Have you forgotten how we supported you when that Yellow Pawpaw had your blog suspended then? Because we couldn’t afford to lose a brand like you even though the plagiarism claims wasn’t false. Can you reflect on that time you had to fight on your Instagram page over your ‘fake’ Hermes bags? Why did you do it? Because you couldn’t stand the claims that your supposed million naira bags were fake and it could dent your image.

You should know that same feeling you had was what Wizkid felt and had to react in ways he saw it fit to react.

Drop this feminism/woman empowerment thing because that is not why this has happened. The same time you posted your “facts” that Wizkid was evicted from his Lekki house (not like he told you he owned it when he moved into the house), was also when he was showcasing the new house in USA on Instagram, linda Ikeji but did you post that? Did you post that he was on Drake’s new song? No, because you love the negative stories more. Anyways Lindodo, I am a young man and you did not pass any tangible message to me in Wizkid’s case!

DEFAMATION AND SLANDER
Aunty, there are numerous records of when you have slandered many celebs. Femi Kuti’s post is making rounds in your trend on Twitter right now.

How many times have you apologized for defaming people on your blog? In your multimillion banana island home, how many times have you paused to think of those who have gone traumatic after their stories (truth/false) ended on your blog? You mentioned that you can take insults on your parents but not threats! Wow as a kid then, the biggest cause of fights on street was insulting one’s parents.

So you take insults lightly mainly because you post bullshit about others on your blog as well too ba? If so, why are you worried over slut-shaming? If insults don’t get to you, then tagging you a hoe or smelly p***y shouldn’t have made it into your epistle. Now that you have called in the authorities, are you prepared for countless libel and defamation court cases that could follow? Are you willing to sell your Banana Island house to start paying damages to victims of defamation from your blog?

HATE OR NOT?
Aunty Linda Ikeji, I know that you don’t really hate Wizkid, but do you have to tell us how you liked only Fuse’s Antennae and Kiss Daniel’s Raba than Wiz’s Dance for Linda Ikeji me? *laughs*.

Aunty you can stop listening to all of his songs altogether, but there is no denying it that mentions of Wizkid in your posts drives in traffic, so much you have to announce your Vlog series at the end of this latest epistle.

I know you do this for views but why don’t you apply little ethics? Why do you think Wizkid would not support other Music stars who don’t like you too? Why did you claim that you don’t like to go to places where celebrities are gathered?

You wrote that “And to Wizkid fans, please be rest assured that I wish him all the best in life. He will continue to grow from strength to strength (as long as he doesn’t endorse violence against women) and his light will never diminish. God brought him to this level and will continue to keep him. I have nothing but love for his craft and hope that one day, we will put this behind us.” Aunty Linda Ikeji, you can put this behind you right now if only you would swallow your pride.

Wizkid has never endorsed violence against women, in fact you and I know that many of Wizkid’s songs was about women and with two babymama’s, Wiz can’t do no wrong and would never attack you directly or through his cousins.

CIVILIZED COUNTRIES
It is funny how your blog (APC/PDP/Brands pays you for banners and their affiliate programs) sells in our country, then you turn back and refer to it indirectly as uncivilized.

But since you have mentioned Tupac knowing which women to refer to as bitches, Linda Ikeji how ambassadorial contracts would have been striped of stars blah blah…and how Chris Brown is still struggling to get a foothold again- I would like to point out to you that Kanye West recently referred to as Taylor Swift as a bitch in his song ‘famous’, but I didn’t see Adidas pulling out of Yeezy’s shoe designs.

You also bragged about giving N500,000 to someone you barely even know her name. My dear aunty, Mark Zuckerberg donated $40million to charity last year but can’t remember when he reminded us he did so. Some Pastors and Christians are housing IDPs in some parts of Nigeria but we don’t even hear about it, because it doesn’t even feature on your blog.

You want to talk about 500k as a leverage for you not to be bashed by an aggrieved Music star? Well I want to ask, would you have felt any better if Wizkid ambassadorial contracts have been cancelled over your issues with him? How would you have felt if plagiarism that you are openly guilty of has ended your blogging career abruptly? Those who live in a glass house don’t throw stones, remember Aunty.

LINDA IKEJI, WE WANT PEACE
Aunty, do you remember why and how Don Jazzy and Olamide’s ish was settled? Both parties benefited from that famed settlement. Don Jazzy could have been nonchalant about the issue and allowed it to foster (him being Don Jazzy with a legendary status already), but he swallowed his pride, settled with the young man and we all felt happy.

Settle with Wiz, Aunty! I am sure Wizzy has connect in Lagos state government whom have connect with the Police. You all, including Nation Human Rights Commission and other NGOs could sit and settle this matter. This could lead to a bigger campaign to show more awareness on violence. Imagine you two in an advert condemning domestic violence. Many of us would like to see that. Aunty Linda Ikeji, we want peace!!!

We talking about the popular LINDA IKEJI

Linda Ikeji was born September 19, 1980 . A native of Nkwerre LGA ,Imo State, Nigeria .She was born in to a struggling family, the second of seven children. She grew up in a Christian catholic home
At a tender age of 10 years , Linda started writing as a hobby .

The fiction she penned down were praised by her friends and family and over time she cultivated a passion for news.

Unlike many teenagers her age, Linda Ikeji loved watching newscasters and interviews and by the time the opportunity presented to attend university in Lagos, her course choice was decided: Mass Communication.

She was admitted to study English Language in the university to her disappointment, but she decided to make the best of it.

To support herself and her family through school, Linda began working at the age of 17, doing everything from being a waitress and ushering to modelling and bar-tending, none of which paid a lot in the late 90′s.
She started modeling in 1998 and quit in 2005.

She became a fashion columnist for a struggling celebrity magazine. After two years of toiling in the news room, she quit.

In 2004 , after she completed her university education, she worked hard to break into the journalism trade, launching her media company, Black dove Communications, a modelling agency and events management outfit.

The name Black dove was inspired by silverbird..a name and a bird. it so happens that her favourite colour is black and favourite bird is the dove.

She stayed within her comfort zone which was modeling so instead of being in front of the camera , went behind the camera by running an agency, recruiting models, training models, getting jobs for models.
” I still have the modeling agency but I am not running it anymore”, she once wrote .

She also started what she describes in her first ever blog post as her “true passion”, her magazine called, FM & B.

The first issue was released in 2006 and after discovering how capital-intensive and time-consuming magazine publishing was, only two more editions made it to print.
The blogging bug bit her in 2006.

Fortunately, in that same year, Bella Naija, another popular Nigerian blog, carried a story about Linda herself and for the first time, Linda began to see a new possibility to take her writing to the world.

Blogging had all the charm: it was free except for the cost of an internet connection, easy to do and gave you access to millions of readers instantly. From that first Bella Naija blog post, she was sold.

Linda Ikeji started blogging fully in 2007 to share things that she was interested in with her readers.

Five years later, http://www.lindaikeji.blogspot.com has grown to be one of the most visited sites in the country.

As a regular source for news, entertainment, celebrity gist, gossip and many more, her blog continues to attract thousands of visitors
It took her four years to start making money from blogging.

She was patient enough

She once said:”I never even thought that I would make money from blogging. I didn’t start blogging with the mindset that one day I would make money from it. I didn’t even think that was a possibility, it never even crossed my mind. I didn’t say to myself that OK let me blog now and maybe in five years time, I will make money from it. I never imagined that it would ever happen. In fact, in 2008, 2009, I was putting free ads on my blog, I was telling my blog readers, please give me your ads and I will put them for free. But then in 2010, people started asking me for my advert rates and I was like ‘really?’ I didn’t even know what it was until I now asked a few people and they gave me their own advert rates so that is how it started.”

She has acquired two brand new cars, her dream car -a 2008 Toyota Camry which she bought two years ago a 2011.

‘Been dreaming about this car since I first saw it two years ago, was finally able to afford it two days ago, after saving for almost four months. And the best part is, I have a blog to show it off, at least now some people go no say ‘levels don change’ lol.’, she wrote.
Recently acquired an Infinity FX 35 SUV worth about N8 million.

Being a wonderful child to her parents , she bought a multi-million 5-bedroom duplex in Surulere for her parents.
Linda Ikeji has earned herself the title ‘Queen of Blogging’ .

Linda Ikeji was persistent , focused on what she did even though there was no financial return but five years later it has yielded great profit , a talk of all.
She found a new path , Blogging .

But she persisted until 2010, when some of the stories posted on her blog began to ruffle feathers.

At a point, Linda Ikeji averaged about 1 million unique visitors each month to her blog. And with that came the much-needed recognition and substantial earnings.

In August 2012, Forbes Africa described her as a success and a case study for the business of blogging.

Her blog gets over 50,000 visits daily and is a hot spot for online advertisers and people wishing to attract web traffic to their websites or blogs.

Comments on Linda’s blog can be revealing, interesting and more controversial than the post itself.

Linda Ikeji’s blog reportedly rakes in an average of N3m a month from adverts from various brands and online ad networks, which makes her the highest earning blogger in Nigeria.
Blogging has brought her the fame , power and comfort ability she needed.

Her blog serves as a source of news, photos and information for most entertainment bloggers.

Most people have criticized Linda Ikeji saying her blog promote rumors but she decline such. Linda provides real entertainment on her blog and she will always make sure you come back for more.

Nigerian journalist, activist and social media personality, Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo a.k.a Snitchlady, is dishing some more details on how popular blogger, Linda Ikeji received N240 million from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki from the $2.1 billion arms deal.

However, Linda has taken to her blog to address the situation and spoke her mind on the matter.
Madam Kemi who is also the editor of #HNNAfrica, a world and health news blog claimed that Linda got her house as a gift from a politician in exchange for not running a story against some politicians.

I was flummoxed when some Nigerians in this present day and Linda Ikeji era were telling Linda Linda Ikeji to get married after she told us that she got a N450 million mansion in Banana Island, Ikoyi.

You see, Nigeria is backward because some people are still clinging on the values that are no longer operational in the world right now (I’m tempted to write about Auguste Comte’s “Law of Three Stages”). I cringe when I hear a graduate say, “In the time of our forefathers, women were obedient”. I want to ask the person if his ancestors had mobile phones, cars, etc. But then, I wouldn’t blame the person. If they could bath with salt water during the Ebola scare, Linda Ikeji I don’t expect anything smart.

When did someone’s marital status become their concern? Who made them marriage prefect? Why should Linda Ikeji get married if she doesn’t feel the time is right for her? Why would a man see Linda Ikeji as a threat? A man that sees a woman as a threat should go and cut off his balls. Gbam!

Why should she aspire for Linda Ikeji the Mrs. Status? The Mrs. Status is like a badge of honour of some sorts. If you don’t have it, you’re seen as a failed woman; the society will frown at you. You must aspire for it. You must acquire it. It’s like a currency system, in a way. You need it to get some things in the society. The thing is that this currency system is regulated by a patriarchal society; a patriarchal society that devise new social mechanisms to subjugate the women folk.
Some things have dawned on me…
Read the rest here: https://shadesofcisi.wordpress.com/2015/09/23/the-mrs-status-2/#more-187

If she were a man, would people badger her this much to get married? Different people have different priorities. So, what if she doesn’t even want to get married? What if her life is perfect? Why do people think every woman out there wants to get married? Lets get it straight: not every woman aspires for marriage and motherhood. The earlier we understand this, the better.

All these marriage prefects should face their lives and mind their businesses. Period. They should stop trying to make someone else miserable because they, too, aren’t happy with their lives.
