AML people, you all remember the epic showdown between Wizkid and Linda Ikeji that took place months ago, don’t you? In a nutshell, Wizkid displayed very ugly behavior after Linda Ikeji published a story that claimed he was served an eviction notice for his Lekki home in Lagos, Nigeria. She further added that his home in Los Angeles was actually rented, not purchased. In March 2016, Wizkid shared and seemingly flaunted news of his new home in Los Angeles. Ikeji’s disruption of that image made Wizkid very angry so much so he attacked her for being an unmarried 40year old woman. Worse, he threatened to send his teenage cousin to assault Ikeji.
What was disgusting about his attack is that Wizkid is the father of two kids out of wedlock and remains an unmarried man. Worse, the women who he has birthed children with have alleged, at some point, that he is a deadbeat dad.
Wizkid’s attack went viral and his fans joined to threaten Ikeji with physical harm. To make the long story short, Linda Ikeji got the police involved and allegedly forced an apology out of Wizkid. Since the very bitter falling out, Linda Ikeji has completely stopped publishing any and all things about Wizkid.
What I now wonder is how much damage was done in terms of Wizkid’s attack, especially that of her being single and unmarried. This is because I see no reason why, in a video Ikeji recently shared celebrating her birthday, she felt the need to announce her search for a man, explain she was in “critical times” and had let her career take over searching for a man, and then concluded she couldn’t wait to “finally have regular sex” once she meets her ideal man.
“For my 36 birthday, my wish is to find an amazing guy, finally have regular sex…”
“We are incritical times now… I am 36. I can’t wait to get married.”
I think her comments were unnecessary and that she may just have made it easier for more personal attacks. Here’s why:
1. Linda Ikeji is loved and hated equally by many. I believe the hate, judging by the kind of comments we see when stuff hits the fan, is actually deeper and much stronger than she realizes.
2. I don’t believe, from a branding and privacy standpoint, especially for the man she seeks to attract, that it is anybody’s business how frequent she has sex or that she is in a desperate phase of her life to be married. If she wants a man, she can privately discuss it with her friends and family to help her find one. There is no need for the world to know.
3. While Nigerians may admire the fact that Linda Ikeji is wealthy, many do not respect that she made her wealth by gossiping, and in many instances destroying lives. Hey, truth be told, gossip destroys lives. It is what it is. Inviting the public, including the haters, into her bedroom is therefore a bad idea. Nigerian society will put pressure on any man that dares to date Ikeji, bbs.pku.edu.cn much less marry her. If he successfully marries her, they will constantly remind him that he is married to a gossip, and insults or threats to his family, depending on how angry they are with her gossip stories of the day, is not farfetched. Therefore, there is simply no need for her aforementioned statements, given we also now know she actually cares what people think about her.
4. For long time readers of Ikeji’s blog, way before the gossip and when the blog was solely focused on quirky news and her entrepreneurial journey as a lifestyle magazine publisher and modeling agency owner, Ikeji routinely revealed too much information about her sex life. This included very intimate details about her relationship with Nigeria based American OAP Dan Foster. Years later on her blog and in her 2012 interview with OAP Toolz, she claimed she realized the risks and was no longer doing that. So, what changed?
Bottom line, I believe Linda Ikeji shared some great inspirational messages in her video but gave way too much information that may return to bite her. I also believe Ikeji is trying to set herself up to transition from gossiping, but wants to ensure she can sustain her new venture hence her still hanging on.
What do you think? Too much information?
